50 Shades of Grey

So here I go. I’m just going to put it out there and say it; 50 Shades of Grey is not a movie or a book or a lifestyle that people who claim to follow Jesus should be viewing, reading or participating in.
“How judgmental! How unloving! How narrow minded!” someone will surely say. Let me be even more blunt; This is a Jesusless book pushing a Jesusless message that debases women, weakens men and does nothing to strengthen the family. 50 Shades is just another attack on the sanctity of marriage and the sanctity of sex. It is a sign of where things are headed in our culture and it is not good.
God’s word speaks to this in 1 Thess. 4:3-8 where we are told that it is God’s will for “you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.” Paul goes on to say that “anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God…” That is crystal clear. There is no wiggle room. This not human opinion but a direct command of God. It is a Jesusless culture that poo-poo’s purity and embraces sex without commitment or moral limits. Remember; God doesn’t make the rules because He wants something FROM you but because He wants something FOR you.
The pornification of America is taking its toll. It is taking a toll on men who are in the school of porn and learning that sex is merely for physical pleasure. They are taught in this school that women are to be consumed like a product and then discarded. This school teaches a selfish lifestyle of self-gratification with little regard for anyone else.
Porn is taking a toll women. In porn women are always viewed as sport or property, less than human (they are bunnies or playmates), they are always judged by the attractiveness of their bodies and they like rape. Books like 50 Shades simply reinforces this fantasy and is degrading to women.
Porn is taking a toll on our children as well. Our kids are growing up in this culture where boys learn to exploit girls and girls are growing up exploited. One in every three girls will be sexually exploited in some way in their lifetime.
Whether you happen to be a follower of Jesus or not, whether you believe the Bible or not, you certainly cannot come to the conclusion that pornography betters anyone or anything. It is merely a substitute for real relationships.
