Glory is the Story
“God can do anything, you know…” is how the Message Bible interprets Ephesians 3:20. My question is this; have you given up the glory of this simple verse? Do you still believe that God can do anything?
I watch daily as churches try to survive another week of paltry attendance, meager offerings and a loss of hope. I see people using every means possible to make things work out in their life. Worry, stress, and anxiety are just the norm for mostly everyone. Marriages fall apart, health fails, kids make the wrong decisions, finances fall short and the dog is shedding all over the house. Have we forgotten that God can do anything?
God has glory. God’s glory is his mighty strength. God’s glory is his infinite perfection in all things. God’s glory is his unimaginable wealth. God’s glory is his goodness, especially when it’s applied to our sinfulness. God’s glory is God being unmistakably God and doing God like things. God’s glory is an antidote to the depressing and despairing affairs of the world.
“God can do anything you know?” Isaiah 9:6 tells us that “the government is upon his shoulders.” That means that God is the final ruling authority. The highest government in your life is not the court, it is not the president, it is not your doctor, it is not your teacher, it is not the professor, it is not your job, it is not the judge but the final authority rests in God alone - and he can do anything. God is strong, God is mighty, God is the supreme ruler, God is the ultimate power, God is the controlling force, God is irrefutable and God is unchallenged. He is the purpose, he is the cause, he is the creator, he is the first, he is the last and there is no impossibility with him. There are no fences to keep him in, there are no walls that keep him out. Nothing limits our God; not time, not space, not the devil, not impossibility, and not your problems.
Glory is his story.
What’s even more amazing than the flat out ability of God is that he is called our “Father.” If you didn’t grow up with a great father you can have one now. God is not just somebody “out there somewhere” but he is a Father who invites you to sit in his lap and experience his glory.
